APPROACH TO THERAPY

It is important that you experience therapy as safe and non-judgemental, and I will provide you with a empathic, confidential space in which you will be able to talk and be listened to by a professional who will not judge or assume that they know what is best for you.

Together we will think about you, your feelings and experiences, seeking to uncover and and resolve problematic behaviour patterns, feelings and issues that might be affecting you and your relationships. This can offer you a way of learning about yourself and the particular obstacles you face in life.

My therapy practice is informed by psychodynamic psychotherapy, which involves an exploration of a person’s emotional and inner world, and seeks to understand the unhelpful patterns of relating and behaviour that can interfere with living a productive and meaningful life.

In our work together I will encourage you to explore emotions, behaviours, significant events and relationships, and consider the underlying roots or causes for your difficulties. This might involve a discussion of your life history and past relationships, but it may also consider the nature of our relationship as it occurs in the therapy room. The aim is to help you reach a deeper understanding of your emotional experience, and what might be holding you back.

Starting therapy can often be a daunting experience which is why an initial consultation is important to give you a sense of what therapy can be like. There is further information about this here.
